2017
Vintage
The 2017 growing season was preceded by one of the wettest winters in recent memory, with nearly 35 inches of rain recorded on DAOU Mountain. The vines were energized, setting one of our best crops yet. A late-season heat wave was followed by a cooling trend that allowed the fruit to achieve optimal ripeness resulting in the deepest color and concentration ever seen from our estate. The tannins are silky and beautifully integrated.
2018
Vintage
The 2018 vintage may go on record as the longest season yet. A good amount of rain energized the vines, and a long heat wave arriving before veraison left the quality of the grapes unaffected. The result was our latest harvest on the mountain. The extended hang time produced deep color and concentration with lush density. The tannins are silky and beautifully integrated, giving way to powerful and balanced wines.
2019 Vintage Releases
PATRIMONY Cabernet Franc, Soul of a Lion, & Estate Cuvée Lizzy
2019 vintage notes
Abundant rainfall combined with moderate temperatures and extended hang times resulted in the latest harvest on record. The winter rains yielded a healthy cover crop that replenished the soil’s micronutrient stores. The growing season was perfect with temperatures hovering in the 80s and 90s, and not a single day reaching 100 degrees in the vineyard. The fruit arrived at the winery in exquisite condition with small, pure, and unblemished berries. The 2019 vintage is marked by elegance, intensity, and fine acidity, all combining to promise excellent longevity and staying power.

2020 vintage notes
The 2020 growing season began on a dry note, followed by much-needed rains in April that replenished the soils and set the stage for healthy canopy growth. Conditions through mid- summer remained mild and steady, with the exception of a rare August thunderstorm. Subsequent heat waves and distant wildfires put DAOU Mountain to the test heading into harvest, yet despite the challenges the 2020 vintage produced some of the most complex wines yet.

To open the same wine from successive vintages is to witness how a place speaks differently with each passing year the same soil, the same vines, interpreted through seasons that will never repeat.
