Bordeaux Terroir in Paso Robles
What Makes Bordeaux Terroir So Special?
DAOU Mountain: Paso Robles’ Answer to Bordeaux
Bordeaux boasts a defining terroir. However, DAOU Mountain in Paso Robles possesses essential qualities that make it exceptionally suited for growing Bordeaux-style varietals. This 2,200-foot elevation site, with its calcareous-clay soils and Mediterranean-like climate, experiences dramatic temperature swings from warm days to cool nights.
These conditions compel the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes to 'work harder,' resulting in more concentrated flavors, sought-after aromas, and robust textures. Consequently, exceptional phenolic development occurs, providing the wines with renowned color, depth, and structure. It also imbues them with incredible aging potential, intricacy, and a richness and vibrancy that’s quintessentially DAOU.
At DAOU, we’ve harnessed the magic of our exceptional terroir to create wines that combine the best of both worlds—Bordeaux’s elegance and Paso Robles’ vibrant fruit character. The specific conditions of our estate also impart a remarkable freshness that sets our wines apart from typical Bordeaux-style wines.
“What we’ve found in Paso doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world.”
- Daniel Daou
